Roman blinds reward a bit of planning, because the fold structure is fixed at manufacture.

Fold depth.Deeper folds suit taller windows, while a shorter drop needs narrower folds to avoid looking heavy.

The stacked folds sit across the top of the opening, typically taking up somewhere between a tenth and a fifth of the drop. Mounting the blind above the frame keeps that stack off the glass.
